Book Week at Zikkies Thrift Store

This Book Week, we’re inviting our community to Book an Adventure - not just by reading a new story, but by passing one on.

At Zikkies, we see books come and go every single day. Some are worn at the edges, others still crisp and new. But each one carries a world within it. When someone donates a book to us, they’re not just clearing a shelf. They’re continuing a special cycle: the sharing of knowledge, wisdom, imagination, and faith.

In Islam, the value of knowledge is deeply rooted. The very first word revealed to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was:

“Iqra” – Read!

(Surah Al-‘Alaq, 96:1)

This divine command set the tone for a religion built on learning, reflection, and passing on what we know. The Prophet ﷺ said:

“When a person dies, their deeds come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah (ongoing charity), beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for them.”

(Sahih Muslim)

That means every time you donate a book, or pick one up, you could be part of something lasting. You may never know who that book reaches next. A child finding comfort in a bedtime story. A young person discovering their faith. A parent learning how to nurture. A soul reconnecting with purpose. These are all acts of beneficial knowledge - knowledge that lives on.

Books are not meant to gather dust. They’re meant to travel. To teach. To uplift. At Zikkies, we believe that thrifting a book is a form of sadaqah, and donating one is a gift that keeps giving.

So this Book Week, we encourage you to book an adventure by:
